About

The Arts University Bournemouth Animation & Moving Image Research Group is led by Professor Paul Ward and includes members of staff, research students and alumni working in Animation, Film, VFX and other areas. It has a broad scope and seeks to engage with anyone working with moving images – whether as a practitioner/artist, a theorist, historian, or curator. Our members are part of the Bournemouth Film School, located at AUB – the largest film school in the UK outside London.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Animation and film historiography;

  • Moving image production cultures;

  • Practice-theory relationships in moving image production;

  • Documentary/nonfiction discourses in animation, film and other forms of moving image work;

  • Narratology and storytelling;

  • Performance.

Examples of previous and ongoing work can be found in the Member Profiles and PhD Students sections, and the ‘Projects and Events’ section.

The Research Group welcomes collaborations and critical dialogue with likeminded groups and individuals. We also encourage applications from research students who align with our areas of expertise.

Sunday afternoon. A field-of-view, as seen from the Greenway, Abbey Mills section. Voices and wildlife suggest unseen presence. All that is now history. But this point-of-view remains, forever this time and place.
